I was very pleasantly surprised by Rock the Heart, even after a bit of a rough beginning. Lanie is interning at her first marketing company after graduation. They have a new account lined up, but no one wants to deal with rock star egos, so her boss asks Lanie. Well, the lead singer of the band they'll be working with is Lanie's ex-boyfriend. She doesn't want to see him after she ripped his heart out four years ago, but she really needs to get her foot in the door so she can land her dream job. And so, Lanie heads out to meet with Noel Falcon, and tensions are certainly high!

My favorite part of Rock the Heart was probably the focus on two people trying to live their dreams but still have each other. Lanie had dumped Noel because she felt like he was more into starting his music career than her. She had no way of knowing that he'd actually make it big, and that he'd still want her after all this time. Meanwhile, she wants to be taken seriously at her new job, so there's no way she start dating her first client. Of course, the tables have been turned and now it's Noel who feels like he's coming in second to a career, but he's still willing to make it work. But then, there's a secret!

Rock the Heart entered into Jerry Springer levels of drama and I was totally into it! I'm a sucker for a good drama that doesn't feel melodramatic. There's a lot of hints dropped that something happened between Noel and one of his band-mates. I definitely didn't guess at what happened, but then it came out, and I was like wait a minute...And then there's another twist! And I was like, I kind of knew it! That was a big mess, but I was totally with Lanie on how she wanted nothing to do with the situation despite Noel's begging and pleading.

In the end, I really liked Rock the Heart. One issue that I tend to have with romances is that one partner always drops their dream to make the relationship work, but Noel and Lanie don't! Sure Lanie hits a bump in the road, but I think she ultimately makes the right choice. And it's not like she's giving up. At least I didn't get that impression. So yay!

I’m familiar to Michelle Valentine’s writings, as a matter of fact I’m a fan of her Hard Knocks series and I’m so looking forward to read Xavier Cold. Meanwhile I decided to give it a try to her Black Falcon series , even if rock stars are not really my type of reads. Maybe it’s just me but rock star stories are a little too … unrealistic .

Noel Falcon is the lead guitar player and singer of the the Black Falcon rock band. Lanie is the hardworking good girl who tries to achieve a job at a marketing company. If she wants to land her dream job as executive within the company, she has to win him over , secure his account and get more info about the Falcon Charity. But she soon finds out that the only reason why she got this chance is because Noel insisted for her to come and travel with the band for two weeks. Now Lane is afraid . Is Noel trying to get her back? Or is it revenge?

I was about to rate it 4 stars but as I was reaching the end of the book something happened that made me not like the characters as much as I thought I do. When Lane finds out that Noel is expecting a child with another girl , she simply did what she does best . Turning her back on Noel when things are not as she wants them to be. Insane , she left Noel four years ago because she thought that he pays more attention to his music and not to her, even if Noel was obviously madly in love with her and would give an arm just to bring her back. He was left alone and heartbroken but she didn’t care.

"Just stop. " he closes his eyes. "Just stop, okay ? You're ripping out my heart and you don't even know it. [...] The fact that I'm not allowed to do a God damn thing about it because you're not mine is killing me."

Noel made it clear that he does not love Sophie , he just wants to be a good dad to his kid and prove that he is better than his own father. But of course Lane didn’t want to hear a single word and starts throwing tantrums each time she doesn't get her way. Sweetheart, the world doesn’t revolve around you. To make things even worse , pushed by despair and fear of losing Lane the second time , Noel ,too , starts acting like a 12 years old .

But fortunately the plot twist at the end saved the book for me.
I love my band books. I do. But this one was beyond amazing! I loved every second of this book. It was hot, sexy, drama-filled, angst and fabulous all wrapped into one nice little package.

I wasn’t sure how I felt about Lanie at first. It seemed like she was hanging on to a relationship that had ended so long ago, but when you find out who it was with…gah… I think I would have been hung up on that one too!

All of the guys in the band seemed very dumb when I first started reading this book. I thought they were all too cocky and arrogant for me to handle… now the twins, I haven’t quite figured out much about them except they are whores… but Riff, I am not sure if by the end of the book I really believed he was a bad guy. He was just looking out for those he cared for at any expense including a best friend. Now, the focal point of the book is Noel, and I am happy he was the focal point because he was hot, I mean hot.

The things that tore Lanie and Noel apart in the beginning were still the same demons the two had to conquer four years later. But could they do it? I couldn’t put this book down because I had to know. I fell in love with Noel in this book, he struggled so much. I did feel the story line about the parents lacked a lot. I thought there would be more to the saga between him and his dad than there was. Not that it wasn’t enough for the poor guy, but I waited for more… I wanted to see that forgiveness.

Michelle Valentine writes amazing characters and the story was flawlessly smooth. I enjoyed this band book so much. I think Noel is now one of my favorite rock gods…
